| Erick Thompson drops in |
The Crystal Mt Triple Crown, the PNW regions largest big mountain board/ski series, wrapped up this past Saturday under sunny skies and spring conditions. A last minute switch from The Silver King to the Elk Chutes, due to spring closures, actually turned out to be a blessing due to significant slough debris in the run-outs of most major venues. Thanks to some very dedicated/supportive parents the debris was stomped out in short order at the Elk Chutes.

Round 3 kicked off with high level skiing delivered early on by a crew of athletes from Whistler setting the bar high with fast, technical skiing.
Each round judges, coaches, and event staff have submitted votes for the "
NWF Money Line" which is characterized by best high action, yet fluid and film worthy line of the day. Round 3 nominations went to Nash Grimm, Philip Patterson, Liam Peifer, Corey Nugent, and Austin Stromme. The votes came in with Whistler athlete Liam Piefer taking home the $100
NWF Money Line cash prize.
Leah Blanchard(age 11) and Anna Thompson(age 10) led the girls categories with nice airs, charging hard down the mountain. Anna's brother, Erick Thompson, also took a leap forward in his skiing on Saturday choosing a highly technical line and skiing it quite well. The youngest competitor of the day, Nick Sajer(age 9), skied right through the heart of the venue dropping off rocks and showing that he felt right at home as a 9 year old in double black diamond terrain.

Incorporating style can often be a difficult addition to technical big mountain skiing. Crystal/NWFreeride team captain Austin Stromme had the most style of the day dropping a huge cork 360 off a cliff for the second time in this series. Upon video review, an additional callout goes to our other Crystal/NWFreeride team captain, Nash Grimm, for incorporating some sick style for a huge air to tree branch, jib tap on the upper section of the venue. Both Austin and Nash have proven themselves as leaders in their age group, skiing very strong and incorporating freestyle tricks to their freeskiing. Up and comer Berkeley Patterson also threw a sick 360 off a cliff out of the rock garden but the trickery resulted in a crash. Keep your eyes on him though as he is turning heads and picking up sponsors for his willingness to push the limits on his skiing.
